For this piece I explored space and texture, I considered how much space I could leave empty but still create an image. I worked with colours from Rosanne Walsh’s collage and the white spaces on the reverse pages from Cut Me Up. I created texture by repurposing book covers and scrapbooks. The image is about extinction and how we are erasing lifeforms from the planet, as I am erasing elements from the page.
Materials: Vintage scrapbook page with altered book cover and accounting sheet and added collaged elements, punched shapes, pencil and paint. Dimensions: 10.25” x 8.25”

[from publisher’s website] Cut Me Up Issue 13: Nearby, Between Curated by Katie Blake“We find beauty not in the thing itself but in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, that one thing against another creates.” Junichiro Tanizaki
Cut Me Up Issue 13: Nearby Between, curated by Katie Blake, is a selection of 18 artworks that explore the Japanese concept of Ma 間, described as a “pause in time, an interval or emptiness in space.” For this issue, artists were encouraged to explore the intentional use of space through employing new collage techniques, while incorporating elements from Cut Me Up Issue 12: Eros.
